Safety tips
Online
- Trust your instincts. If a profile or conversation feels wrong, stop and move on. You don't owe anyone a reply.
- Protect your personal information. Don't share your home address, workplace, financial details or ID until you know someone well.
- Never send money, gift cards or crypto to someone you met online, whatever the story. Requests for money are the most common sign of a scam.
- Watch for red flags: someone who refuses to video call, pushes to move the conversation off the site quickly, or whose story keeps changing.
Meeting in person
- Meet in a busy public place such as a café or bar, and arrange your own transport there and back.
- Tell a friend who you are meeting, where and when, and check in with them afterwards.
- Stay in control. Keep an eye on your drink and leave whenever you want to.
- If something goes wrong, call the emergency number 112 (Spain and all of the EU).
